The Master Lowering Device is a precision piece of equipment, specially designed for the task of lowering Coffins and Caskets. It is a tried and proven concept, imported from the USA, combining a pleasing external appearance with rugged internal construction. The elegant design allows a smooth and silent lowering action without the need for any external power source, and fulfils every need for safety.
The device is fully assembled before the committal . In most instances the telescopic stands will be used to level the device and provide the correct height over the grave. The belts are then connected and tensioned manually by means of a simple detachable handle. The drapes are then attached to enhance the overall appearance. The system is now fully prepared to receive either Coffin or Casket. Operation of the device is simplicity itself. A control lever is used to apply a breaking action to the internal mechanism. On release of this brake, the coffin or Casket is lowered at a controlled speed under its own weight.
Prior to the funeral service, the grave is prepared in conjunction with the grave diggers to ensure the grave is of sufficient size. The grave area and earth mound are covered with grass matting. The equipment is fully assembled and tested.
During the service, an appropriately dressed Member of Staff is available either to carry out the lowering operation or to assist the relatives. The Coffin or Casket is loaded onto the device at waist level. At the relevant point of the service, the control lever is released allowing a smooth and silent lowering of the coffin under its own weight. On conclusion of the service, a cover is placed over the lowering device and the floral tributes positioned on the device.
